Expert Q&A
Is it true that I should not feed my 1-year-old son honey?
We usually say that by the age of 1 year, children are ready for honey. Before that, we recommend against it. The reason is that honey may carry botulism spores, which could make a baby sick. Babies over a year have immune systems that are better able to handle honey. So for little ones, we avoid adding honey, products with honey, etc. Even if a product made with honey is cooked, that may not destroy the spores.
