Make sure you can read and understand your follow-up instructions. If you can't follow the instructions (for example, your pediatrician's office is closed Saturday), talk to the ER doctor about alternative ways to have your child be seen by a doctor. You may be asked to return to the urgent care clinic or the ER for a return visit. If you need to schedule a follow-up appointment, call as soon as possible to make that appointment and mention that your child was seen in the ER. Also, tell your pediatrician's office the specific goal of the follow-up visit.
Of course, if your child starts to look worse in the interim, see a doctor right away. Ideally, head back to the same ER where she was first examined and treated, as they will have her records and previous tests for comparison.
