Being outside is important for children. The outdoors is the best place for young children to practice and master emerging physical skills and to experience the pure joy of movement.
By its very nature the outdoors is more conducive to play more inspirational and stimulating to the imagination than the indoors. Chances are, some of your fondest childhood memories are of outdoor activities and places. Here's a fun activity!
Beans and Bags
For throwing, tossing and catching, nothing beats a beanbag! Make these fun, homemade beanbags with your little one for fun inside and out.
You'll need:
Fabric (use your child's favorite sport, cartoon character, etc.)
Pinking shears
Embroidery thread
Embroidery needle
Pasta, rice or beans
Cut squares at least 5 inches in diameter out of the fabric with the pinking shears. Using the embroidery thread and needle, sew up all the way around leaving about an inch opening on one side. Let your child fill the bag up with rice, beans or pasta. Once full, sew up the opening.
