My daughter is 8 months old. Ever since she was born she has slept 12 or more hours a night, no waking. The clinic nurse I see thinks I am not feeding her enough. She has all three meals a day plus bottles and snacks. Is there something wrong with her or is she just a sleeper like me?
The normal sleeping pattern includes night and nap sleeping, although the morning nap most typically stops around the first birthday. The afternoon nap endures until approximately 3 years of age. The total amount of sleep decreases gradually during the course of childhood. Here's what you should expect:
An average of 16 hours per day at 1 week of age, just less than 14 hours at 1 year, 13 hours by 2 years, 12 hours by 3 years, 11 hours by 5 years and 10 hours by 9 years of age.
