Expert Q&A
I am breastfeeding but frustrated because I don't seem to be losing weight or regaining any of my pre-pregnancy shape. Is there a quick fix?
Weight loss is one of the many benefits of breastfeeding. Depending on how many feedings per day, you can burn approximately 500 calories per day (22 calories per ounce of milk produced). Keep in mind that you need to consume an additional 400-600 calories daily to maintain good milk supply. With that in mind, you need to make sure you are exercising to burn additional calories. Walking is an easy, inexpensive choice and a good way to get Baby out for some fresh air too. Twenty to 30 minutes, four days a week is a good goal, and keep in mind that studies are now confirming that you can split those into 10-minute sessions and still get great benefits."
