Regarding postpartum muscle loss, I would recommend that any woman consult with her physician before beginning an exercise program. Postpartum recovery after bedrest is longer, and often more difficult. The fatigue alone can be overwhelming, and caring for a new baby adds to the exhaustion. There are some other issues to consider. For example, many women suffer from back problems after bed rest. Several months laying in bed, often on the left side, can result in back and neck problems requiring medical attention. If your friend has gained excess weight, that may also impact her ability to exercise. It's best for you to proceed slowly, and make sure that your friend is really ready. I would suggest that your friend start with walking, and progress from there. If you hear her talking about any unexplainable "aches and pains," urge her to see a doctor! You are wonderful friend! Good luck.
