Balances occurring in a stationary position, such as standing on tiptoe, are known as static balances. Maintaining balance while moving is called dynamic balance. Both will improve with maturation and as your toddler acquires and practices motor skills. But because balance is necessary to both moving and remaining still, your little one can't practice it too often.
Here's a fun activity to help with balance:
Body Part Balance: This game will reinforce body part identification as it promotes balance. Challenge your child to try balances such as the following: on two knees and two hands, on two knees and one hand, on two feet and two hands, on two feet and one hand. Try it with him, and remember that falling over isn't failure; it's fun!
