Expert Q&A
How do I stop my 11-month old from biting me and everyone else?
To stop the biting, don't bite back and don't get angry. I suggest a technique that works well in many behavior modification situations. When the child bites, you place him/her into a playpen and set a timer for 10 to 15 minutes. Then you let them out. If they bite, they go back in the playpen. As you do this tell them "Don?t bite me." You will be surprised how quick they pick up what will happen if they bite and modify the biting behavior. It is a way to get the behavior changes you seek without confrontation or without hurting their self-esteem.
