Expert Q&A
When should I take my toddler to the doctor if she has a fever?
A toddler falls into the age group of 3 and 36 months, during which time we normally recommend evaluation if the temperature is greater than 102.2 degrees F or a temperature of greater than 100.4 degrees F, which has lasted more than 72 hours. Fever by itself is almost never dangerous, even temperatures up to 106.0. Fever does indicate a higher risk of bacterial infection (although the vast majority of fevers are caused by viral infections).
