Danger signs include a child who appears to lose consciousness after the fall, a child who seems sleepy, confused or is vomiting after the accident or a child who has fallen onto a hard surface or from a considerable height. The emergency physician will ask you a lot of questions about your little one's behavior since the fall so it's important that you keep a close eye on her.
Rarely, a doctor will want to get a head CT (also called a CAT scan) to check for brain injury. Note that brain injuries are very rare – most small bleeds in the brain are simply observed closely to make sure they improve on their own.
