My granddaughter was only 3 pounds at birth and premature. She is now 13 months, has no teeth and is catching colds. Is this normal, and are the colds related to not having teeth?
Don't be alarmed. About 10 percent of babies at 1 year old don't have teeth. They might be there in the gumline or still forming, but the normal range for teeth is very wide, and your granddaughter is still within a very normal range. There can also be some delay because of her premature birth. Had she gone full term, she would probably be less than a year old at this point.
As far as the catching colds frequently, there isn't a real medical concern unless they frequently turn into secondary infections. It's really not uncommon to see infants catch a cold every five or six weeks. The important thing is that she can fight them off, and they don't turn into infections.
