At what age is it OK to give children aspirin?
Neither children nor adolescents should take aspirin if they have a fever. The concern is that they could develop Reye's Syndrome, a disease that affects all the organs in the body but is most lethal to the liver and brain.
Everyone is pretty much in agreement on this: the U.S. Surgeon General, the FDA, the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that aspirin and combination products containing aspirin not be given to children under 19 years of age while they have any fever-causing illnesses. Aspirin may be listed in combination products as acetylsalicylate, acetylsalicylic acid, salicylic acid or salicylate, so be sure to check labels or ask your pharmacist."
