Katrina and Karl's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
Introduction
December 30th, 2001
I can't believe christmas has come and gone. As I was working on Virginia's scrapbook today I realized that I didn't take many pics of her on Christmas morning and didn't have any of the three of us. Virginia wasn't a happy camper christmas morning anyways. She was running a high fever (104.5) that wouldn't go below 102 with meds. We finally gave the on call Doctor a call and he said to take her to the ER. That she obviously had some kind of infection. Luckily the ER wasn't too busy and they saw us pretty quickly. Her throat was pussy and inflamed. So they are treating her as if she has strep throat. The ER dr said it was best to error on the side of caution since Strep can lead to other complications (rheumatic fever and problems with the heart and kidneys). Virginia's fever finally broke on Friday (28th) and she is definitely feeling better. Of course she is also getting two teeth in at the same time. I guess we can be thankful to get these things over with all at once.
Because of not feeling well, she hasn't been sleeping well. Last night was worse. I guess I didn't put her diaper on right or something because around MIdnight she was screaming and when I went to get her she was soaked and the crib bedding was soaked (her diaper was off inside her PJ's). Ugh. So I took her and new pj's to our room to change her and clean her off. Of course at this point she was wide awake. So we put in an elmo tape in our room and let her watch until she was tired. This was maybe 10 minutes. I then decided to let her stay in our room since her bedding would need to be changed. Bad idea, I should have changed her bedding because around 2am I was woken up by a thud. Yep, she fell out of bed right onto a hard wood floor. She had a bloody nose and lip. So I picked her up took her to the kitchen to clean up and then to the living room to cuddle so she would calm down. She ended up playing past 5am...that's when I got Karl up so I could catch a few zzz's. She doesn't look bad this morning...a small fat lip with a big sore on it. Her nose is a little swollen, but not noticeably so and a small scratch on her chin. I feel like an awful parent. I used to sleep so lightly when she slept with us as an infant. I guess I don't do that anymore, because I didn't even feel her roll over me to fall off the bed. At least she has forgiven me for this....or at least she still gives me kisses. Thank goodness for unconditional love.
Besides being sick, Virginia got a lot of stuff for Christmas. We bought her an easel that has a chalk board, dry erase board and paper on it. She loves it. I wish we hadn't introduced her to the markers though. Even though they are washable, they make a huge mess. OH, well. We also got her a few elmo tapes (he fav) a puzzle, and the little people farm. Others gave her a big little tikes Kitchen, a lego table, elmo books, elmo phone, tickle me elmo surprise, and lots of clothes. We ended up removing a lot of her old toys and putting them in the attic. Luckily one of my good friends has a daughter 9 months younger than Virginia, so she thankfully took lots of the toys off of our hands.
I hope you and your loved ones had a great Holdiay and that you will have a safe and happy New Year's.
Love,
Katrina and Virginia
