Joann's Diary Entries

Introduction

December 30, 2002
46 Weeks 3 Days
10 ½ Months

Wow, it’s been almost a month since I have updated. Where does the time go? How can it be that in just 4 short weeks my baby will be 1? It’s truly amazing watching a child grow up. Michael has become a little person with a personality that is the best!

Another Ear Infection

Starting back a few weeks ago, Michael wasn’t feeling well once again and had a fever. I took him to daycare in the morning and told her I would pick him up early. I called a couple of times and he defiantly wasn’t feeling well. When I arrived at the pediatrician that afternoon he was diagnosed with a “really bad” ear infection in his left ear. Because he had just gotten over his last ear infection they prescribed a more potent form of medicine. The 10 days worth of antibiotics were used up on Christmas Day.

Michael Sat on Santa’s Lap!

We have a local nursery/florist in our new neighborhood that has Santa come every year for the kids. I figured what a great opportunity. Maybe the line won’t be as bad as the local malls are. DH and I brought Michael to see Santa, the line was about 10 minutes and where you lined up they had a ton of artificial trees and poinsettias. Michael was really well behaved until we sat him on Santa’s lap. Once he turned around and saw who was holding him, he wasn’t very pleased. The best part of this Santa visit is you bring your own camera and take your own pictures so it was FREE! I am so glad that I didn’t have to spend $10 on a picture. The Santa they had was great with a beautiful real beard!

Stairs

Michael has mastered going up stairs. He loves them, which means the second he can he crawls over to them and then goes up, up, up. It’s amazing how quick he can be. The only problem we have right now is he doesn’t understand that he can fall and get hurt. He doesn’t understand how to get down and sometimes will get so excited he will just turn around and start to fall.

Solid Foods

What can I say here except for the fact if you are eating it Michael wants some of it! He loves Daddy’s cereal, cake, any kind of meat or chicken, and he still really LOVES his veggies. I hope this continues for a while!

When is a walker considered a walker?

Michael is taking LOTS of steps… Sometimes 10 sometime 2. Is he a walker? I guess so, but defiantly not very skilled!!!

He also has mastered this past week the art of being able to stand from a sitting or squatting position. It’s the cutest thing when he does it! I guess I can check another thing off the development list.

Pictures (Again)

We had family portraits taken at Picture People on the 8th. They turned out GREAT! We took home 4 portraits. Two were holiday (one in a sleigh and one with a HO HO HO sign) and two regular ones. It was so nice to have them turn out so well. It was a bummer that we had to wait almost 1 hour past our time to get them done, and when we retuned to pick them up we had to wait almost another ½ hour. I think I am only going to use Picture People a few more times; they are starting to get on my nerves!

I went and had Michael’s 10 month portraits done at JC Penney’s. I did 4 Holiday shots and one plain one to use for his 10 month picture. I was so impressed. I can’t believe how well they turned out! They defiantly will have my business in the future. I think when I take Michael in 2 weeks for his 11 month pictures I will join their club. Plus I am always seeing coupons for $3.99 sheets and such. It’s great! The cutest picture was of Michael only in his diaper with a Santa hat on and a great big grin!

1st Christmas

Michael’s 1st Christmas was awesome! He really didn’t have any interest in opening the presents and preferred to push them around on the floor doing a butt in the air type of crawl. We had my Mom’s side of the family over on Christmas Eve, DH’s side of the family over on Christmas Day and then we went to my Dad’s for Christmas Day Eve dinner. Michael received a ton of presents. I think he has about 4 favorite ones. One of them we got him. It’s the Little Tikes Drum & Piano. He loved the piano and would play with it for 30 minutes at a time! He also loved 2 Parent’s toys. One is the Gumdrop machine that you fill with balls and then push a button or turn a lever and it lets the balls drop to the bottom. The other toy is just a pound a ball toy. You put 4 balls in the top and pound them down and then they come out the bottom. He really loves this. And DH’s Sister Deniese got him a Fisher Price Walker. It has an adorable face on it that lights up and plays music when ever he walks with it, which is all the time. It didn’t take more than 1 day to figure out how to lift it a little when he crashes and turn it so he can go again. He can really cruise with this thing much better than with the regular walkers. It seems to be a much studier piece of equipment. He will take off and then hear the music so he will stop and start bouncing “dancing” to the music!

Mill’s Birthday

DH’s Mom had her 65th birthday this past Saturday. We took her out for dinner at Chili’s with his sisters. There were 11 of us total. We had a blast and it was nice to get her out of the house. She hasn’t been out to dinner in about 30 years. She loved it. She is doing really well. If you didn’t know she was terminally ill you would never suspect it.

1st Birthday Plans

I can’t believe it’s time to start planning Michael’s 1st Birthday. I have to go out and get some invitations so I can get them in the mail. I think that the theme is going to be balloons since that is one of Michael’s favorite things. He will shriek when he sees one!

Breastfeeding / Pumping

Michael and I are still going strong on the breastfeeding. I am planning on continuing the night and morning feedings until he is ready to wean, however after his 1st birthday I am not sure if I am going to continue pumping. He is doing really well on formula and I’m sure will do fine on regular milk, so we shall see!

I think that’s about all for right now.

Michael has a recheck on the 8th of January for his ears, and we have no big plans for New Years.

Happy New Year!

JoAnn and Michael
