Happy New Year! Well, this is officially my last day of maternity leave at home with Rachel and Mitchell. It’s been lots of fun!
Saturday I did something I’ve always wanted to do, but never have because I’ve been busy having kids for the past three years. I got my belly button pierced. It was quick and, as Corinne predicted, hurt no more or less than getting my ears pierced. It was a quick but burning sensation, similar to the feeling of a fire ant bite. No big deal. They used the standard little stainless silver ring with a small silver ball in it. It’s cute, and no one except Jerry really knows I did it. I remember going to the Lileth Fair in the Woodlands during the summer of 1997. I saw someone with a nice belly button piercing and it looked so nice, I asked her where she had it done. Celtic Odyssey seems to be the place where “everyone” gets it done. It’s in the heart of Montrose. The piercing guy’s name was “Scorpion.” Hahahaha! Really, he was very nice to me, and I even had a small audience: two heavily tattooed, chain smoking lesbians. Yes, they held hands while they watched. They said they were too chicken to do it (this coming from the one who had her tongue pierced!).
Last night was New Year’s Eve. We went to a party at Gloria’s. It was a small group of four couples who all brought their small children. We all brought something to eat (Mexican theme). We had fajitas and all the trimmings. We brought chili con queso. Very easy to prepare (remember I don’t cook)! The kids had a good time as Gloria had lots of fun things for them planned (games, noisemakers, sparklers, and other small fireworks). It was nice to see Kelly and her husband. They brought Macy who is two months younger than Rachel. She doesn’t talk as much as Rachel does, but they played well together. Rachel was terribly frightened of the firecrackers, so we left when most of that got underway after midnight. Another thing we will never like about Texas is that it seems perfectly normal for many people to shoot off their guns at midnight on New Year’s Eve and the 4th of July! Yes, they shoot bullets into the dark night air. I will never understand this mentality because even the basic physics course will tell you that what goes up, must come down. You will see some of these people being interviewed on the nightly news. When asked, they will just say, “well we only shoot the guns up in the air, it’s not like we aim them at anyone.” Duh! Need I say more?
