Introduction
December 31st 2001 – 14 weeks, 5 days old
We are finally home, safe and sound.
I have never been so happy to be home before. Christmas with our family was wonderful, and I would not have missed the opportunity to have everyone meet Bella, but traveling with a baby is more difficult that I ever imagined. It was so hard to leave my family. I have mentioned a few times before what horrible guilt I feel taking their beloved granddaughter away from them (and vice versa). It is almost enough to make me consider moving back home.
As we were saying goodbye in the driveway my parents had tears in their eyes as we hugged over and over again. As we pulled away I started to cry too, I can’t believe it will probably be a year or more before I see them again. Sam’s father drove us to Manchester, and before we said goodbye in the airport he kissed me twice on the cheek. This is the most reserved man I know, and up till this point we had only hugged once, after our wedding. I guess there is nothing like giving a man his first grandchild to break down some barriers.
The trip went fairly well, we had an extra seat for her carrier on the first leg of the trip and Sam carried her in the Baby Bjorn on second, she slept in his arms almost the whole time. At least that part of traveling was easy! As hard as it was for me to leave home, one month of winter weather was more than enough. Walking out of the airport in Phoenix last night to 65 degrees temperature was WONDERFUL!!
I can hardly believe how much Bella has changed in just one month. It has been so fun watching the changes and developments. I think all the interaction with family was really good for her. I can't wait to get to the Doctor for her four-month appointment; I am dying to know how much she has grown. I put one of her outfits on last night that I had left behind and the legs only came to her mid-calf! Could my tiny baby girl finally be growing out of her 0-3 month clothes?
