Peggy's Diary Entries

Jacob is 11 months old today!!

I know this entry is late, but I wanted to wait until today to write. I am including one early picture of Jacob when he was about 4 months old. And Jacob is walking!!! This past week or so he has been trying to take a few steps, and last night, out of the blue, he walked several times for more than seven steps!! I think he is starting to realize he is ABLE to walk. Now when he crawls he does it in a very funny way, his knees won't touch the floor ... can you picture that in your mind? He looks like a little turtle when he crawls now. I was so excited!! I videotaped it too!! OK, it was not his first step, but his first more-like-walking experience!! I guess he just tried to beat his 11 month birthday before he started walking!!

Jacob.I am becoming quite sad because my mom is going back to Taiwan next Monday(12/18). And it will probably be 1.5 months before she comes back. I know it's not a very long time because in the past 10 years I had been living without her, but ever since she came to live with us this January I have become SO dependent on her. She cooks for us, she takes care of Jacob, she is just mothering us with so much love, like we are children.

Jacob is doing very well eating wise. He LOVES oatmeal and he can eat it several times a day. He is also eating a little bit of table food when we have dinner. For some reason my milk supply seems to increase a little, so I no longer have to worry about not pumping enough for Jacob's day feeds. I am a little sad knowing my pumping days are almost gone, now Jacob is eating more solid food, his intake for expressed breastmilk is decreasing. My mom said for the past few days Jacob seems to lose interest in drinking milk from the bottle. But at least he is not showing any sign of weaning from me :0) I only have to pump five more days at work for this year before my vacation starts and maybe by the time I return work next year (1/8/01) I no longer have to pump. I really love my pump, it's been SO faithful in helping me provide my baby the best. After I pack it away, it will be patiently waiting to be used again for our next baby!! :0)))

Like I said before, I think my Medela Pump-in-style pump is the BEST investment I've ever had my whole life!! I bought Jacob two new cups (Playtex I think) that have soft straws and he is REALLY GOOD at drinking from it. I only had to teach him ONCE how to open the lid and sip water from the straw and he knew exactly what to do. What a smart boy I have!!

I bought some Christmas lights for our windows. Philip set them up last night and they are SO pretty. Jacob loves to watch the different colors of light. He even clapped his hands when Philip turned the lights on. So cute!

Welp, since my mom won't be here when Jacob turns 1, we decided to order a birthday cake today and celebrate Jacob's 11 month birthday tonight with my mom since she is the one who takes care of him SO MUCH. I will be sure to get some good pictures of Jacob eating his cake!! And of course we will have to celebrate his 1st birthday, more cake for us ... yum yum!!

I will need to start taking folic acid and prenatal vitamins, since we will try to conceive again early next spring. I want my body to be in best condition before I get pregnant again. Wow, just thinking about being pregnant again makes me so excited. I can't wait to experience all the wonders and magic all over again!!

Next week Philip starts his vacation and be a stay-at-home-dad to watch Jacob!! I have some worries but I try telling myself Philip will do just as well as my mom does in taking care of Jacob. I already know he is an expert in changing diapers and putting Jacob to sleep, but I don't know about him feeding and entertaining Jacob for 10 hours straight!! We will see what happens. My dad will be visiting us for three weeks, and he arrives next Tuesday so there will be all males in our household!! Should be VERY interesting!!

Look at the earlier picture of Jacob. He has changed a lot since then!!

love, peggy
