Introduction
Well, today is my actual due date. Imagine that! If I had been pregnant
until now, I think I would have gone crazy. I was so uncomfortable at 34
weeks that I didn’t think I could stand it another day, let alone six more
weeks. I met a woman today coming out of my doctor’s office who had two
beautiful twin girls and she said she made it to 38 weeks. She said she
couldn’t move! She was basically stranded in her bed, and said that a
friend of hers told her that it “hurt to look at her.” How awful! And I
thought I was big!
My six-week postpartum check-up went well. My doctor was pleased with the way things are going. We were both surprised that I’m within three pounds of my prepregnancy weight. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I lost so much muscle while I was in the hospital -- muscle weighs more than fat, and I have much more flab than muscle right now!
We discussed birth control, and I decided to take the pill. Since I’m nursing, though, I have to take the mini-pill so that my milk supply doesn’t decrease. After the babies wean I’ll be able to go on the regular pill, which is more effective.
The only health issue I had to discuss with my doctor was the dizzy spells I’ve been having. Sometimes I will feel dizzy and my vision will get cloudy, but it only lasts a few seconds. He checked the results of my lab work from my three-week visit and saw that they were fine -- no anemia or thyroid problems yet. So he thinks maybe my equilibrium is still off from the birth. I’m going to let him know of these spells get worse, but otherwise hope they go away.
We also took CJ to the doctor today. He has been sick for a while and his tantrums had me worried, so I wanted to make sure they weren’t being caused by something physical. His ears were fine and the doctor assured us that his behavior is normal for a toddler, especially one with new siblings in the house. Toddlers can regress when new babies are in the house so that they get the attention the babies get. So for now, we will baby him and give him lots of extra love! Hope that helps.
The babies go for their check-up on Wednesday, so more about them next week.
