Sharlene's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

January 10, 2001

I apologize for having been away so long. My husband Randy left for his sea tour right after Christmas and we were racing to get things done before he left. That included celebrating my birthday and Kyle's early, and getting things taken care of before he left. Randy has been gone a week now but it feels like it's been a month. I miss him terribly this time around and I have to wonder if it's because I'm pregnant again, or if Kyle now recognizes his daddy and misses him too.

We had a nice birthday for Kyle and I a couple days before Christmas. Even though my birthday is on December 26, and Kyle's is on Jan. 3, we figured it was close enough to celebrate. I bought a cake for myself from Albertson's and it came with a free cake for Kyle. We put Kyle in his high chair and put his cake on the tray. He went at it with gusto and got cream and cake everywhere. Afterwards, we gave him a bath and then let him open his presents. He got a few bath toys and a rocking horse which can also convert to a rolling toy.

We opened presents on Christmas Eve. Well, I wouldn't say that Kyle has gotten the opening of presents down yet. He was more interested in playing with the boxes that were already opened. All in all, we had a really nice Christmas.

It's hard to believe that Kyle is already 1 year old. Time seems to have passed so quickly. It really has not felt like it's been a year since we've had such a wonderful little miracle enter our lives. I was looking at the pictures that Randy took of Kyle after he was born. That tiny premature baby that weighed just over 5 pounds is a far cry from the chubby 22 pound boy we have now. I just thank God every day that he is healthy and happy.

Then there is the expected entry of a sibling soon. I had the ultrasound done a couple of weeks ago and for those of you who were interested in whether I will be giving Kyle a brother or sister to play with ... it's still hard to say. The first few times the radiologist looked, he/she appeared to be a girl but then he glanced one last time and could have sworn he saw 'something' there. The radiologist is leaning toward a boy but admitted he has been wrong before in the 'iffy' cases. Randy and I will be happy with either one as long as the baby is healthy. I have only recently started to feel the baby move and am now finally showing. My weight gain is steady which is good and the AFP test came out negative so everything seems to be going well.

I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season and are looking forward to a fabulous 2001. I have really enjoyed writing this baby diary and hearing from some of you in the 'Talk to Me' section. The year 2000 had been a big turning point in my life but definitely for the better. Thanks for sharing it with me.
