Tricia's Diary Entries

January 12, 2003

Hello...

I always think of various details about Sarah that I need to record; but...when writing an entry, they just leave my head! So, bare with me as I rattle off some baby cuteness and accomplishments!

Sleeping~

As you know, we co sleep. No matter what time of the night it is, be it the middle of, crack of dawn, or official "gettin up" time, Sarah will abruptly sit up, fly over me to get to Chuck and Say "Hi Da!" and plant a nice juicy kiss on her Daddy. It is sooooo cute! It's also an easy way to get Chuck up, lol!

Another thing that I do regarding nighttime is wait until my sweetie is sound asleep.... I will then snatch her up and force her to sleep on my chest (lol) just like when she was a newborn. Is there anything sweeter? I can't get over the fact that her once tiny feet that used to rest on my belly are now down to my thighs! :-(

Well, while we are on the subject of nighttime.... I sleep on my right side, belly to belly with Sarah. Nursing throughout the night never bothered me, except...recently, I have a big permanent crack on my nipple from her new front tooth. I always read that if the baby was properly latched, and heaven knows at almost a year old we should have latching mastered, that teeth do not come in contact with your nipple. I do not even know where to begin how to correct this, but it certainly is torturous. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Ok, back to cuteness..... Sarah just loves our dog Zach. She will sit with him, babble to him, play with him, pull his hair out, and help feed him out of his dish. Yuck! Her favorite activity is to unlock his crate and get into it (with or without him). I have posted a picture of her in his crate, which is quite comical. I will include the link below to her updated web page! Her second love is for our kitties, though they have given her a bat with their paw every now and then if she pulls their tail or tries to rip their ears off. The cats run, but poor dear Zach will patiently sit with her as she shoves her toys in his mouth and pokes her fingers into his eyes!

Sarah loves her brother and sister. Of course I'm sure she loves them both equally, but Lyssie is such fun! Who wouldn't love a big sister that will endlessly dance, sing, play, play bubbles, make funny faces and set up "Kelly Clubhouses" (??) all over the house? Alyssa will dress her up, construct obstacle courses, watch the Wiggles with her and just play for hours. Charles takes on more of the “doting” big brother role, but it is just as precious. It is so neat to watch Sarah’s eyes light up when she catches sight of her brother and sister.

Temper, temper! Uh-oh! Could it be? My little sweetie? Yes, Sarah certainly has one. If she can’t get what she wants, she will scream. And scream. Loudly. Also, when Chuck and I tell her “No!”, she will look over at us, smile sweetly, shake her head no, but definitely keep right on doing what she was doing! Baby bootcamp, here we come!

Few more stats….Sarah now weighs 17 pounds, 10 ounces, is almost walking, taking in more solid food (finally!)and is still taking 2 naps a day (when we are home!) Still nursing FREQUENTLY, and just recently, she has even been able to turn over in bed at night without having to latch on! LOL. Her first birthday is fast approaching….Chuck always makes the kids a special cake, something that they are very interested in at the time. Well, we jokingly say we are going to whip up a “booby” cake for Sarah. Lol! I realize some people may not even find this funny, as breastfeeding a toddler is “gross” and I sure have been dodging weaning questions left and right. Most recently, my dear FIL told me that Sarah was going to get big lips for nursing so long. That’s certainly a new one! I posted his comment on a breastfeeding forum that I frequent and the responses had me in stitches. One woman said her daughter was VERY thin lipped….good thing she breastfed her until she was 3, or she fears she would have no lips at all! Another wondered if Mick Jagger was nursed into adolesence!

Other news………

Well, the day is here. I am going back to work tonight. Try as we might to scrimp, save and cut corners, there is definitely not enough money to go around here. Not to mention the house that we pay the mortgage on monthly that we don’t live in yet. We need some extra funds to make things happen, and I am just plain tired of being sick about it all the time. I am definitely ok with the whole situation, almost excited about it. We have been talking about it for quite some time now, but, were talking of me going to waitress at night. We figured that was perfect…I could work nights so Chuck would be home with the kids, and I could earn some quick cash! J I delayed, and made excuses, and put it off, finally, I made the choice to go back to working at the hospital instead. Don’t get me wrong, there is NOTHING wrong with waiting tables, I would probably make even more money doing that, in fact, I waitressed for years as a teen and when I was first married. It’s just that I would hate to start over somewhere. I am very shy, hate new situations, and I just don’t have it in me anymore, lol! I called my boss at the hospital and she said she could most definitely use me at night! My scheldule will be 3:30pm~11pm on Sunday and 1- 2 nights during the week from 4pm~midnight. Chuck will be home with the kids and it couldn’t be more perfect. I like my job at the hospital (I draw blood all day ;-) ), I definitely know what I’m doing, and the people are nice. So, it’s a win-win situation. I think it will do me some good to have some structure. Staying at home daily has been getting depressing, and making me lazy, and aimless. Well, that’s not quite the way I want to convey my feelings…but I hope you get the gist of it.

Well, that about brings us up to date. I sure hope my week goes smoothly.
