Preterm Labor and Magnesium Sulfate!

July 15, 2006

Whew what a week this has been. Well from the looks of my tagline you can see that I tried to go into preterm labor this past Tuesday and ended up receiving the drug Magnesium Sulfate to stop my contractions. It started Monday when I started bleeding and went to Lake Forest Hospital and was transferred to Evanston Hospital because they have a Level III ISCU (Infant Care Unit). This is where my not so happy story begins. I got to Labor and Delivery and there I got the first of two not so fun steriod shots in my booty for the babies lung maturity. All was quiet and they even decided that my placenta previa was looking more like a low lying placenta but then on Tuesday my contractions started. They were 2-4 minutes apart and starting to get very uncomfortable. The doctors put me on Magnesium Sulfate through my IV. It was absolutely horrible. I felt like my skin was on fire and the drug was suppose to relax my smooth muscle (uterus) and ended up relaxing my entire body as well. Needless to say the contractions stopped and the drug was discontinued after about 16 hours. It was truly horrible but well worth it. I am still pregnant and had to stay in the hospital for another several days. The doctors let me go home on complete bedrest until I deliver. This is where the story brings me to today. My kids are at their grandparents house (which is four hours away) because I am on bedrest. I haven't seen them for days and I am going through withdrawl. I miss them so much. Katie will celebrate her 20 month birthday on the 20th of this month and I want them to be home. She is pretty much unaware that I am gone but Dylan at 3 1/2 knows something is going on. I miss them sooo much. Well that is basically my week. Praise God that we are still pregnant and that the kids are being taken care of by people that care about them. until next time, Bridget & Baby (missing her Kaitlyn and Dylan)
