There's no doubt that the first few months with twins are challenging beyond
what most people can imagine. But what about after that – when the help disappears,
the schedule starts to kick in and it's time to start getting out and about and
living life in as normal a way as possible? In other words, what happens when
you're on your own, and you don't want to become a hermit, but you're overwhelmed
at the idea of taking two kids anywhere?
The trick to doing so is planning ahead and staying flexible, says Meghan Regan-Loomis, author of Juggling Twins: The Best Tips, Tricks and Strategies from Pregnancy to the Toddler Years (Sourcebooks, 2008). "Getting out with my twins is what kept me awake at night when I was pregnant," Regan-Loomis says. "How would I get them in and out of the car? Up and down stairs? For that matter, in and out of the bath? It was scary to think of all that could go wrong."
You have to realize you're not as mobile as your friends with singletons. |
