When Other Parents Drive You Nuts

What to Do When Confronted with Parental Pet Peeves

When Other Parents Drive You NutsWhether you're a new mom or a seasoned one, chances are there are things other parents do that drive you up a wall. These "pet peeves" about raising a baby can be annoying to witness, but are they necessarily bad? Read on to find out what experts think (and to see if you are guilty of some of the behaviors that bother your fellow parents).

Safety Concerns

As parents, we often go to great lengths to ensure the safety of our little ones – from putting locks on cabinets to moving everything out of the way as they practice their first steps. Thus, it is hardly a surprise that our parental instincts get riled up when we see scenarios that appear to put other children in danger.

I hate it when mothers try to 'one up' you about milestones.

"I cannot stand parents who don't have their children secured in the car," says Shari Silver, a mother from Hicksville, N.Y. "When every day there is an article about a child who was killed in an automobile accident due to the fact that she/he was not properly restrained, one would think that this is a no-brainer."

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among children ages 2 to 14, due in large part to the nonuse or improper use of child seats and seat belts. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends that babies use rear-facing infant seats in the back seat from birth to at least 1 year of age and at least 20 pounds, then switch to forward-facing toddler seats in the back seat from age 1 and 20 pounds to about age 4 and 40 pounds. (Older children should continue to ride in the back seat using a booster seat or seat belt as appropriate for their age and height.)

This is a great article! I hope all moms read it. We need to learn how to have better relationships that don't involve judging, but we also need to know when to cut our losses and move on because a friendship is causing more drama than joy. Good luck to us all!
