What
many parents forget is the degree of force and trauma that is often used
during the birth process. Some studies suggest anywhere from 30-90 pounds
of pressure can be used in a normal birth, and vacuum extraction and forceps
can add additional stress. In comparison to the light contact adjustments
used by most chiropractors who care for newborns, chiropractic care clearly
appears to be much gentler. The chiropractic adjustment that most people
think of with the twisting and popping is not the same adjustment that
is used with newborns and infants. In fact, the amount of pressure used
is comparable to the amount of pressure you could press on your closed
eyelid without any discomfort.
Medicine's approach is based on the inductive research of specific conditions and the associative factors related to the condition. The data is then categorized to identify the high-risk groups and activities that are considered to be causative factors. The medical approach is a mechanistic and allopathic viewpoint focused on the elimination of suffering. Medical doctors are extremely qualified to diagnose and treat disease and provide emergency first aid medical care. Their training is based on the use of medications and surgical procedures to treat and cure medical conditions.
Chiropractic's approach is based on deductive logic of how the anatomical structure of the spinal column relates to physiological function or the expression of health. The chiropractic approach is focused on allowing for optimum expression of a persons genetic potential. Chiropractors are trained to analyze the bio-mechanical and physiological function in order to improve a persons growth, development and regulation of homeostasis.
To those who dismiss chiropractic care for their infants or children, I say this: The fewer the facts, the stronger the opinion.
Become educated on the subject and read up on the latest research before making a comment.
And one more thing: the word chiropractors is spelled with "ors" at the end, not "ers". Again, referrring to my point above.
I am not a chiropractor, nor do I have anyone in my family who is a chiropractor. I DO however fully believe in the chiropractic philosophy and how it relates to true wellness in all members of my family, including my newborns. I have two boys, ages 4 and 2, and another child due in April. Both of my sons received chiropractic adjustments within hours of birth, and continue to receive adjustments as necessary (which isn't that often, although I have them checked weekly).
Chirpractic is totally safe for newborns, infants, children and adults - including pregnant women. The key is finding the right chiropractor. One that specializes in family or pediatric chiropractic is vital. Just because YOU may feel it is dangerous based on your limited view of the modality does not make it true....
The reason doctors in the US don't recommend chiropractic to their patients is that they are ignorant of what chiropractic truly is and how it can benefit a child. I have taken it upon myself to educate my GP, and because of such, my GP and my chiropractor work together, to ensure my child receives the best health and wellness care he possibly can. This includes NO VACCINES, lots of highly nutritious foods devoid of processed junk (white flour, sugar, etc)., exercise, sunshine, and fresh air. Chiropractic is just another tool that I use on top of these common-sense things to keep my children's immune systems functioning at peak performance.
I know my family only benefits from chiropractic care. It is safe, it is proven and it works. You can find lots of research and case studies at www.icpa4kids.org, and can also search their database to find a pediatric chiropractor in your area.
Bottom line: don't knock something you know absolutely nothing about.
it's treated my son's acid reflux, and he sleeps better. chiropractic care should be regular treatment for everyone. it's made my life much better.
Any kind of touch or light massage will soothe a baby. People that want to use Chiropractors for that just want to pay for it, I guess. I don't think it's a totally a bad thing but risky in my book. I would never take my babies or small children to a chiropractor (and never did) - unless it was deemed medically necessary.
Chiropracters aren't recognized by the American board of medicine. "The reason many pediatricians do not suggest that babies get checked by a Chiropractor is simply because it is not part of their training in American medical schools. " --This statement is false. They don't recommend it because it's not needed!
