Make Postpartum Fitness a Priority

Reaching Your Weight Loss and Fitness Goals

Mommy Time-Making Postpartum Fitness a PriorityAfter the baby comes and you are into a routine, it's time to take time for yourself. If one of your priorities is to get your body back in shape, you will have more energy not only for yourself but also for your new family.

Remember to start by checking with your doctor and then by working out slowly. Your body just completed making a whole new person. Listen to your body and do the following to ensure a safe workout routine.

Preparing For Action
Before beginning a workout routine post-pregnancy, make sure to do the following:

Remember to start by checking with your doctor and then by working out slowly.

  • Get your doctor's advice and support. Make an appointment to get your general health checked out before beginning an exercise program.
  • Meet with a personal trainer to discuss your fitness issues. The trainer will help you develop a fitness program that is right for you.
  • Put your running shoes on and get moving, even if you just take a walk.
  • Don't wait for the "perfect" time to start. There will never be a perfect time. Set a date to start. Putting it off is a great way to have nothing change.
  • After giving birth, many women achieve a new lifestyle. You have another person to think about and when you are in top shape, you can handle the demands of motherhood with a little more ease. Changing a body part is easy enough, but changing a lifestyle takes a bigger commitment.

This assumes the problem is motivation rather than logistics. With 3 children two and under (I had twins who are colicky), who would hold the baby/babies while I exercised? They don't nap.
