Tips for Videotaping Babies-Capturing Memories with the CamcorderAs the popularity of the video-sharing Web site YouTube grows, it's not hard to find funny videos of babies eating sour apple slices and toddlers doing crazy dances. Most new parents have endless footage of their firstborn babies sleeping in their bouncy seats or eating in their highchairs. But as your family grows and your time gets taken up with other obligations, it can be difficult to capture those precious childhood moments on film.

With the improvement of today's technology, it has become easier to record your baby and share the images with your friends and family via social networking and video sharing sites. Read on for tips on how to get the best footage and the best places to upload your creations.

Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better when it comes to your video equipment.

Video Equipment

First of all, bigger doesn't necessarily mean better when it comes to your video equipment. You can even use a small digital camera with a video function to make great movies, says Troy Lanier (a.k.a. "Daddy Troy"), chief technical director for DadLabs, a series of daily and weekly short-form Web videos about modern fatherhood. DadLabs captures the growing and underserved niche of co-parenting dads through professionally produced but humorous video segments.

Lanier also suggests that you shoot only onto a digital card and not onto videotape, which is becoming obsolete, and runs the risk of sitting on a shelf somewhere unused. "The nice thing about shooting onto a card is that each movie becomes a file on your computer and then it is ready to watch at a moment's notice," he says.
