A Photo a Month
A Year Full of Baby and Toddler Pictures
By Shannon McKelden
How about a New Year's resolution this year that leaves you with a wonderful photo journey through a year in your baby's life? Taking a photo a month shows the great strides your baby makes in growth and development, as well as provides the perfect excuse to try fun and exciting things every month.
Let's explore some ideas for monthly fun that'll make for great photo shoots!
"You can get great photos with party hats and other New Year's Eve gear," suggests Nicole Braun, a photographer in Brooklyn, N.Y., and owner of www.wink-web.com. "It's also cute to get a photo of the little one passed out at midnight."
January also brings weather changes that add variety to childhood photos.
Kelli Estes, a mom from Woodinville, Wash., took advantage of rare snow days for photo ops. "I bundled the baby up into warm clothes so all I could see was his little face and took him outside," Estes says. "[He was] adorable with pink cheeks and nose!"
Of course February is about love. Why not show your love with a unique photo of your baby?
"On Valentine's Day I bought my son a shiny red Mylar heart-shaped balloon and tied it to his ankle," Estes says. "As he kicked, the balloon would bob over him and he'd squeal in delight. Or he'd grab onto the balloon and try to taste it. Those pictures are some of my favorites."
In parts of the country, March gives us peeks of the spring that is to come. We begin venturing outside again, which is a great time to capture your baby or toddler exploring new territory.

I decided not to make ANY resolutions this year, because it just stresses me out and I always break them, which makes me feel bad about myself. :-) But this is a fabulous one to make! Thanks for the great idea. Going to start this weekend with the January photo. Hopefully we'll have snow! Happy New Year to you!
