Ready, set, action – and curiosity! Your 2- to 3-year-old is ready for action
and curious about how things work. Instead of solo play, he is becoming more interactive
with other children. But what toys are best for this age group?
According to Claire Green, educator and author, toys that encourage imaginative play, such as make-believe, dramatic play and creativity, should be at the top of the list. "At 3, children are learning social skills, language use, eye-hand coordination, dexterity and a sense of balance. Curiosity abounds," Green says. "Give them toys that encourage group play and help them learn about the real world. They'll be looking for products to help them re-create their 'world' and enrich their experiences."
Board games that match patterns or identical shapes are great toys for toddlers. |

Dress-up clothing, outdoor climbing toys, tricycles, board games that match patterns or identical shapes and even empty food containers are great toys for toddlers.
Green says to avoid toys that can be put together in only one "correct" way. This prohibits the child from being creative. For example, instead of giving your child a toddler puzzle with a few pieces, give him blocks so he can create his own unique masterpieces.
