When Lora Jakobsen's first child was born, her sister sent her old bottles for
which Jakobsen, a Los Angeles resident, just got new nipples. "Then when my second
was born, I bought a non-toxic plastic one but the nipple flow was too fast,"
she says. "I had a shower for a friend and we had a ... drinking contest in baby
bottles, and a friend brought her Dr. Brown ones. After the contest she asked
if anyone wanted them. I said yes and now we only use those!"
There is a lot of information out there for a first-time mom to learn.
Angled baby bottles help you to hold the baby more upright without allowing the baby to suck air out of the bottle. |

According to Jennifer Walker, mother of three, pediatric nurse and author of Moms on Call Guide to Basic Baby Care (Revell, 2007), the angled bottles help you to hold the baby more upright without allowing the baby to suck air out of the bottle. In a straight bottle, when you get down to that last half ounce, you have to tilt the baby back to make sure that he gets all the contents of the bottle.
Both plastic and glass bottles have good points, Walker says. "The plastic is less expensive, not as heavy in the diaper bag and can withstand a fall to the ground," she says. "The glass does not contain any of the polymers that are currently under fire and are easy to clean."
