How to Make Holiday-time Birthdays Special for Babies and Toddlers

December Birthdays-How to Make Holiday-time Birthdays Special for Babies and ToddlersEver worry that choruses of "Jingle Bells" will drown out "Happy Birthday to You" for your December-born child? While the holiday season may not be the easiest time of the year to celebrate a birthday, a little forethought can ensure that your little one has a magical, memorable day.

Plan Ahead
The busy pace of the holiday season can make it difficult to plan a birthday party, but some moms have found that doing a bit of legwork weeks before the event can help.

"If we are having her party somewhere, I often have to plan and book it months in advance, as much as six months sometimes, in order to get the date we want with all the Christmas parties people are having at that time, too," says Melissa Durante, a mom from Bartlett, Ill., whose daughter has a mid-December birthday.

Before selecting a date for a December birthday party, it might help to inquire about neighborhood events that may cause a scheduling conflict with a large number of guests.

Kristina Geiser of St. Louis, Mo., agrees that there is much to consider when arranging a party to celebrate her toddler's December 1 birthday. "It is hard because it falls between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so a lot of her friends have been out of town for her party or they have other holiday events to attend," she says. "The weekend of her birthday seems to have a lot of local Breakfast with Santa events."

Before selecting a date, it might help to inquire about neighborhood events that may cause a scheduling conflict with a large number of guests. Sending out invitations well before the holiday rush can also help ensure your celebration gets penciled in on people's calendars.
