Baby Blessings
10 Reasons to Cherish the First Year
By Becky Lane
(All the parents we asked made sure to specify nice smells are something they like about their babies – as if that is something that needs clarification!)
"When they fall asleep in your arms" is another of Travis' favorite things about babies. "I'm not sure if this is so great because they're totally adorable with the little pouty lips and angelic chubby faces, or if it's because they're finally asleep and not crying," she says.
Either way, it seems most parents agree with her, no matter what time of day it is. "Even though I'm upset because I'm awake [in the middle of the night], it makes it all worth it when Jack falls asleep on me," says Amy Doverspike, an Erie, Pa., mom of two.
In all the excitement of a new family member, parents often forget about the original family members: you and your significant other. Even though having a baby adds another number to the mix, the first months of your new baby's life can really show you what it was that made you fall in love with your partner in the first place.
"Watching your husband with his new child – it makes you fall in love with him all over again," Green says.
When asked about her baby blessings, Doverspike includes "the clickable car seat" among hers. Going out with your kids will never be easier than it is the first year, even with the humongous diaper bag and other paraphernalia. So whether you use a car seat, front baby carrier, sling or stroller, take advantage while you can.
