4. The 11th Hour Panic

You're bone-tired. The baby still has nights and days confused. Most of the time, you barely know which end is up. Then you suddenly remember that a week before the baby arrived, you foolishly assured the dozen family members you'd invited for Thanksgiving dinner it "wouldn't be a problem."

Getting All Your Ducks in a Row
Plan ahead. Way ahead. In the days before parenthood, you probably began thinking about the Thanksgiving meal a week or two before, purchased all the necessary ingredients several days prior and started preparing it a day or two in advance. Back up this schedule at least a week, and involve your spouse or partner. Before even getting to the hospital and then becoming lodged in the constant cycles of nursing, napping and recovery, give your other half a list of critical things to remind you over the next several months, this included. Give him a list of ingredients to buy and recipes for preparation. New dads often feel shoved to the sidelines. Want to help him feel important? How about swooping in to help rescue Thanksgiving?
