It's Thanksgiving, Baby

4 Signs You Have an Infant in the House on Turkey Day

Solution: Embrace It
You can try to keep Baby quiet by giving her something to play with. You can put on soothing music and hope she'll nap. But chances are the baby-generated volume is going to be at a fever pitch more than not. The best thing you can do is go with it. Match your baby's penchant for noisemaking. Be silly. Be goofy. Sing crazy songs while you dance from one prep station to another. Slap some baking soda on your nose. Not only will you stop worrying about the din your baby's making, you might just have fun in the process.

2. Relentless Attention Seeking

If you think your baby is going to just sit quietly while you prepare your award-winning dinner, well, let's just say you're mistaken. She's going to pull out all the stops to make sure your attention is focused in the right place: on her. If that means catapulting food off her spoon or capsizing every item within arm's reach, so be it. Reprimanding her will accomplish little. Ignoring her, equally futile.

Solution: Involve Baby
Make the project a two-way effort. Give Baby mini jobs to do, like mixing ingredients in a bowl (provided you don't actually need the ingredients – or the bowl). Give her the aluminum roasting pan to play with until you need it, or the turkey baster. Ask her opinions about specific preparation choices. Baby will feel important and you'll be able to complete the job, if a bit more slowly than usual.
