Tips to Help Keep Your Cool While Coping with a High-needs Baby

Henkelman took time to leave her house while her husband stayed home. She would go have a coffee, go shopping and she took a 12-week course in sign language. She didn't need to take these breaks often, but they helped her frame of mind and she went home anxious to see her children again. She recommends taking little breaks too – such as a trip to the video or grocery store alone.
Running a simple errand can turn into a real sanity preserver.
Zavala calls this time "perspective taking." If you get a chance to recharge [your] batteries, [you] can offer more," she says.
Another group setting that can provide a break and companionship is a support group for moms of babies with colic. It can be a relief to make a connection with moms who are going through the same thing you are. You need to know that you are not alone. Talking to other moms with similar experiences reassures you that while what you are going through is trying, it is not your fault and you will survive.
