Steffy agrees that dressing children appropriately is of greatest importance. "If you have a toddler and they are walking, make sure they have protective covering on their feet when they go out if it's wet," she says. "Children get very cold fast and keeping them dry is one of the keys to promoting health. If they're playing outside in the snow, make sure they have several changes of clothes so they can stay dry and warm."

Bring children out for a walk when the weather is clear; just dress them appropriately. Just avoid places and gatherings that have sick children or adults in attendance."
