Roll It, Sister!

Reconnecting over a Game of Bunco

Whether the moms involved work fulltime or stay at home with their children, send their children to public or private schools or homeschool, lasting friendships and memories are formed over the Bunco tables. Joining a Bunco group as a regular member or a sub is a great way for any mom to maintain relationships and meet new friends.

"I love how much I laugh while I'm at Bunco," says Karen Hoxmeier, mother of three from California and creator of the RollBunco.com. "When I leave, my cheeks usually hurt from too much smiling." Hoxmeier's group often has "theme" nights during the winter.

"In October, I hosted Bunco and told everyone they would get a prize if they came wearing a costume," says Hoxmeier. "We do an ornament exchange at Christmas, too. Sometimes we'll have pajama night Bunco in winter when the weather is cold and rainy."

Jaronitzky's group also does special events for holidays. Last October she had a pumpkin carving party before Bunco started and invited spouses and boyfriends to join the women for a bonfire and s'mores after the game.

And quite often the fun doesn't end when the platters of food are put away and the prizes awarded. The members of Brinckerhoff's group are preparing to vacation together in the mountains, and the mother of 6-week-old James does not want to miss out on the fun. She-s considering taking him on the weekend trip, because, after all, who better to help her care for him than 11 other moms?
