. It is a wearable, sleeveless blanket worn over a newborn's pajamas or onesie that would take the place of loose blankets. The SleepSack, also an iParenting Media Award winner, is available in a wide range of sizes (from extra small to extra large) and colors.

Swaddling and Receiving Blankets
Swaddling is a practice that dates back to the ancient Greco/Roman era. A common belief among women of that time period was that this routine was essential if they wanted their children to develop good posture. Some babies respond very positively to swaddling, as it can provide them with a feeling of overall comfort and security that they felt while nestled in the safety and security of your womb.

Fast forward to today where you can still see evidence that this tradition is in use as a way to settle and soothe a newborn. Recent medical research even suggests that swaddling can assist with neuromuscular growth as well as sleep enhancement. A study published in the May 2005 edition of the medical journal Pediatrics found that swaddling could play a direct role with increases in an infant's sleep efficiency. Sixteen infants between the ages of 6 to 16 weeks underwent polygraphic recording while in their usual sleep position during one night. These babies were either waddled or not swaddled. The study found that the babies who were swaddled for their sleep period awakened less often.
