Blankets Keep Baby Snug as a Bug
Purchasing the Right Blankets for Your Newborn
By Jennifer Lacey
Let's face it – whether this is your first baby or your third, all moms can agree that their little ones require a lot of clothes and accessories. Between the onesies, booties, hats, pajamas, bibs and the like, it's very easy to become overwhelmed with all the brands and varieties available. The choices you need to make for your newborn are plentiful, especially when the time comes for you to purchase blankets to keep Baby comfortable and warm. With careful consideration and a dose of practical advice, you'll soon be on the right path to selecting the proper blankets for your new baby or baby-to-be.
Baby blankets are an essential part of your newborn's wardrobe, providing warmth and protection against the sometimes harsh elements of nature. Blankets also come in handy when you need that emergency diaper change while outside in a public place or as a cover as you breastfeed Baby. They are also worth their weight in gold when they have to act as a temporary cover during those late nights when you need to change Baby's crib sheets for the third time.
Avoid purchasing blankets with long fringes or that are loosely woven, as they might unravel and hurt little fingers. One important aspect to remember is that as your baby grows, so will the need for a durable, dependable blanket that will withstand the multitudes of trips in your washer. Often young toddlers will become quite fond of a special print, and they become best friends with their blanket. A good tip is to purchase two of the same blankets, so you will have an extra one on hand in case one goes missing or gets torn or soiled.
