Baby Swings

Your Child's Way to Unwind

By Laura Cone

Pages:  1  2  3  4  5

  • Consider investing in a swing with music and soothing sounds to relax and educate your baby. But if you buy a swing without those bells and whistles, don't despair. You can easily play a relaxation CD or classical music while your baby swings.
  • Your baby's swing should be well padded for a comfortable experience. Also, check to see if the padding material is practical for you in terms of easy cleanup.
  • Some swings have a remote control to activate music and swinging motion. Use the remote control, but don't try to monitor your baby from a distance. Stay nearby so you can judge from your baby's face whether he wants to swing faster or slower or not at all.
  • Remember a five-point harness is the safest option for both car seats and swings. While your baby might seem too small to get out of a baby swing, you may be surprised. Don't leave the harness unbuckled.
  • When buying from a consignment shop or yard sale, always check to see if the baby swing has been placed on a recall list.
  • While it may be handy to take your sister's or neighbor's hand-me-down baby swing, it's better to invest in a new one. Only the newer baby swings meet the latest safety standards, which came about due to problems with swings in the past.
  • It's time to stop using a baby swing when your baby meets the manufacturer's maximum weight or if your baby begins to interfere with the swinging motion.
