Birthing a Scrapbook Club

Laurie Delphia of Littleton, Colo., says several scrapbook clubs meet at her Freeze Frame Scrapbooking store. Delphia, the mother of four, does not charge people to meet. She provides cheese and crackers for the scrapbook club members who meet on Fridays to work on their photographs. On Saturdays, it's potluck when scrapbook club members bring in snacks to share.

"We crop on Friday nights," says Delphia, adding that the groups are very informal. "They just come and work on their scrapbooks. They meet people. We let people form their own groups. If they are interested, they can meet anytime during the day to work on projects."

Social Benefits
Delphia loves the idea of pregnant women and new mothers meeting at her store to share their ideas and scrapbook supplies. "Babies generate such wonderful energy," Delphia says. She says some of the benefits of starting a pregnancy scrapbook club include networking with other women.

"I think the socialization of scrapbooking is the most important thing, sharing ideas, sharing camaraderie," Delphia says. "You can create a book for your child before your child is even born. It's about creating page layouts so the pictures can then go on the pages. A lot of that work can be done before the baby is born."

Delphia says because scrapbook pages may be taken out of the binder, it's easy to reorganize the order of pages after your baby is born. "You can create ideas of different pages you know are going to ocur, [such as] the birth, bringing them home, what their room looks like," she says. "You know those things ahead of time so the pages could be created ahead of time and the photos put on later."
