The widespread news coverage of the RotaShield debacle left many parents of newborns wondering if the possible unknown dangers of vaccinations were worth the possible risk to their children.
Nora Maginnis, a nurse practitioner at the Pennsylvania State University, says that she generally felt confident the vaccines given to her newborn daughter were safe. "For vaccines that have been on the market a long time, like the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) and DPT (diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus), I haven't read one good study showing that the vaccines aren't safe," Maginnis says.
