Creating a Well-stocked Nursery

Basic Care Items:
- Changing table with safety rails and belt (a waterproof pad that turns your bed into a changing table works too, Douglas says)
- Waterproof changing pads
- Diapers
- Wipes, diaper rash cream, Vaseline, alcohol, Q-tips
- Nose syringe
- Diaper bag or knapsack
- Diaper pail (a plastic garbage can with a lid works just as well, Dr. Fleece says)
- Baby shampoo
- Laundry detergent formulated for sensitive skin
- Two sets of hooded baby towels and washcloths
- Humidifier
- Six newborn nighties
- Six undershirts with snaps
- Three sleepers
- Three pair of socks
- Four bibs
- One sweater (depending on the season)
- One snowsuit (depending on the season)
Equipment to Entertain:
- Baby swing
- Musical mobile (should be removed when Baby can push up on hands and knees)
- CD/tape player
Safety Items:
- Baby monitor
- Nightlight
- Plugs for electrical outlets, safety latches for drawers, doorstops
- Foam padding to cover objects with sharp edges
Other Helpful Extras
- Wastebasket
- Rocking chair
- Nursing pillow
- Clothes hamper
- Dresser or plastic storage containers
