Being a Mom

Poetry for Mother's Day and Beyond

Pages:  1  2  3

There is something special and almost indescribable about being a mother or a mother-to-be. When you become a mother, every day is Mother's Day. Below is a collection of poems submitted by iParenting.com readers, describing their feelings about motherhood.

For Expecting Moms

While We Waited

By Caroline Brooks DuBois

While we waited, your daddy learned
"Rock-a-Bye-Baby" on his guitar.
Inside my tummy, you kicked while he sang.

While we waited, I planted a flower garden
to bloom upon your arrival
and every year thereafter on your birthday.

While we waited, your brother made a mobile
of butterflies and birds to hang
above your crib and make you smile.

While we waited, your Grandpa painted your room,
while Grandma knitted a blanket for you.
They smiled, already imagining you.

While we waited, we chose the perfect names
and played guessing games each night,
wondering if you were a boy or girl.

While we waited, we touched my tummy,
we listened to your heartbeat,
and we fell deeply in love with you.

While we waited to meet you, you waited too.
