It is tempting to place a rag soaked with paint thinner or paint remover into a plastic bag when you know you're going to use it again in the immediate future. The danger of not storing thinner-soaked rags in a metal can or container far outweighs the benefit of saving a few minutes to retrieve a new rag for your next project.

A Deadly Game of Hide-and-Seek
We all drill our children on the dangers of talking to strangers. John Turner, a retired firefighter in Bloomingdale, Ill., is quite familiar with the horrific sounds and searing heat of house fires that often send children hiding under the bed or in a closet. Coupled with the fear of talking to strangers, this tragically results in disaster.

Turner strongly urges parents to educate their children on the role of firefighters in relation to their safety. "I've rescued many children who were hiding behind filing cabinets or mounds of clothes because they were scared of us," he says. He furthers adds that the frequency of injuries and fatalities can be greatly reduced when children are instructed not to hide from life-saving firefighters.

While you can never completely thwart a house fire, you can educate your family on fire safety. Using common sense and fire safety tips offers a greater chance of preventing tragedy and surviving in the event your children are involved in a fire crisis.
