Move It, Baby!
Motor Learning in the Young Child

By the end of month 3, your baby may:
- Roll from stomach to back
- Raise chest when lying on stomach supported by arms (prone extension)
By the end of month 4, your baby may:
- Roll over from back to stomach
- Enjoy being pulled to a sitting position
- Hold head steady and erect for a short time
By the end of month 5, your baby may:
- Balance head steadily and erect
- Do modified push-ups and make swimming motions with arms and legs
By the end of month 6, your baby may:
- Support most of own weight when held in a standing position
- Sit independently or with propping
By the end of month 7, your baby may:
- Sit unsupported, leaving hands free to do other things
- Try to pull to a standing position
